Testing Results, and Staffing appointments
Vice President Patrick Wright opened the July 25, 2012 meeting of the Williamson Central School District Board of Education. Doug Lauf, High School Principal and Wendy Havens, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction discussed with the board the need for a textbook that can be used for both AP Biology and Gemini Biology. The book selected meets the needs of both courses that need to be done under the new APPR plan. She informed the board that at this time it will be considered a one year position and can be re-evaluated at the end of the school year.
Angela DeFisher and Caroline Jackson reported on the Recreation Committee Meeting. The numbers for the summer programs are holding steady with a large number of participants for the theater programs Bravo and Encore. Wendy Havens presented highlights of the Annual Report that included:
• 55% of Williamson graduates earned an Advanced Regents diploma
• There was an improvement in discipline referrals in the buildings
Mrs. Havens also presented the results of the 4th – 8th grade test results with highlights. The results showed that:
• In ELA students excelled at each grade level
• Williamson exceeded the New York State average in most grade levels
• In both ELA and math some ground was regained from last year
• Next year, the assessments will reflect the common core curriculum.
The Board approved several CSE case summaries as well as the following Consent Agenda items:
• Resignation of Eric Wendler, Student Aide
The Board also approved the following appointments:
• Chuck Monsees and Jeff VanHoover, high school credit recovery tutors
• Appointment of Dustin Shove as High School Permanent Building Substitute for the 2012-2013 school year
• Appointment of Carrie Finley as Middle School Permanent Building Substitute for the 2012-2013 school year
• Appointment of Sarah Pietropaolo as Elementary School Permanent Building Substitute for the 2012-2013 school year
• Amy Balcerek, .5 Special Education Teacher, Elementary School
• Stephen Ola, Special Education Teacher, Middle School
• Erica Wendler, classified substitute

The following changes in appointments were also approved:
• Cynthia Ferland from Teaching Assistant to long-term substitute for Caroline Donovan for the period of 9/1/12 to 11/9/12
• Deborah Lauf from .66 Special Education Teacher to .8 Speech and Language Teacher
• Larry Baranek from monitor to 1:1 student aide
• Karen Christman from 1:1 student aide to playground monitor, 3 ½ hours/day
Under New Business, the board approved the first reading of Policy 7492 – Dignity for All Students Act, the reappointment of Joanna Alexander, Teaching Assistant from the Preferred Eligibility List and two donations from the PTSA for the Elementary School. The board also approved the Committee on Preschool Special Education, Committee on Special Education and Committee on Special Education Subcommittee for the 2012-2013 school year. The board discussed options to recognize employees for exemplary attendance with the awards to be distributed on opening day.
The board approved changes to the 2012-2013 school calendar in response to the changes in curriculum that are underway at the state level. There will be an additional Superintendent Conference Day prior to the start of school making the first day of school September 5. A ½ day for additional staff training has been added on October 5. Parents will be notified of these changes via facebook, the district web site and welcome back packets sent from each building.
