Lyons Police Chief Mike Donalty Announces Retirement

Lyons Village Police Chief Mike Donalty announced his retirement effective February 28th at Tuesday’s Village Board meeting. The 28-year law enforcement veteran startedhis police career with the Town of Irondequoit Police Department and retired from there at the rank of Investigator in 2003. He immediately accepted the Lyons top cop job in May of 2003. He has been an active member in the WayneNet Drug Task Force, consisting of the

collaborative effort of eight municipal police agencies, the Wayne County Office of the Sheriff, and the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office to combat drug trafficking in Wayne County.

One of Chief Donalty’s accomplishments in his 8-year tenure with the Village of Lyons has been in securing over $600,000 in State and Federal grants for personnel expenses and equipment for the benefit of the Village of Lyons, Lyons Central School District, and cooperating municipalities.

He also formally introduced and implemented the Community Policing concept to the Village of Lyons; Re-instated foot and bicycle patrol programs to curb loitering and disorderly youth in the Downtown Business District; Instituted School Resource Officer program into the Lyons Central School District; Instrumental in developing and initiating the semi-annual Countywide Police In-Service training program.

Mike and his wife, Lynne own a small farmette in Rose where he intends on spending more time. He curently serves as a Fire Commissioner for the Rose Fire District #1.
According to Lyons Village Mayor Corrine Kleisle, the Board will review the current list of qualified candidates from the civil service tests. She stated that whomever the Board chooses, will be required to move, or live in the Village of Lyons upon selection. Chief Donalty was receiving $73,000 per year in the position. Mayor Kleisel said the pay for the new Chief will be based upon experience.

Former Village Clerk took advantages of weaknesses in embezzlement case
