Friedler, Nancy “Fee”
ONTARIO: Passed away quietly on Monday, February 20, 2012 at the Maplewood Nursing Home at age 88. Survived by her husband of 57 years, Glenn A. Friedler; children, Katie, Jim, John Friedler, Mike (Pam) Friedler & Glenn E. Friedler; brother John (Margaret) Fee; many nieces, nephews, other relatives & dear friends. Nancy was a loving wife & mother. She loved writing poetry & playing piano. We will miss her gentle spirit, quick wit & sense of humor. 
All are invited to call 4-7PM on Wednesday at MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 1961 Ridge Rd, Ontario. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM Thursday at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish at the St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, Ontario, followed by her Committal Service at Calvary Cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice in her memory

Hannan, Rita P.
NEWARK: On Feb. 18, 2012 at age 86. Rita is survived by five children, her daughter Eileen Ersteniuk of Macedon, sons Raymond W. (Lois) of Clifton Springs, Dr. David (Pamela) of Pultneyville, Kenneth (Pamela) of Clifton Park and Thomas (Renee) of Minneapolis, MN; seventeen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Raymond G.; her two brothers Robert and Leo Powers, who lost their lives in World War II, her sister Blanche Laurent, her first-born child Roberta Lee, who died at one year of age and an infant daughter Mary, who died at birth. Born in Rochester on September 20, 1925, she was the youngest child of the late William and Mary McGrath Powers. She was a graduate of Nazareth Academy and received her nurse’s training at St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing. She lived in Rochester until 1956 when the family moved to Newark, New York, where she has since resided. Rita was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church and active with St. Michael’s School Mother’s Club. As a young woman, she was employed by St. Mary’ Hospital and Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, working in the nurseries. In later years, prior to her retirement, she was an office nurse in her son’s medical practice. For most of her life, though, Rita was a homemaker-dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. In the face of tragedy, triumph, heartache or joy, she served as an anchor of strength, courage and grace for her family.
Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. on Wed.(Feb 22nd) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller St, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. on Thurs. (Feb. 23rd) at St. Michael’s Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Hill, Betty D.
MACEDON: Died on February 18, 2012. Predeceased by her husband Walter Hill in 2009; brother William. Survived by son David (Laura) Hill; niece Nancy (Stephen) Staples; nephew William Drickel; grandchildren, Meghan (Jon Wilson) Hill, Anne Farrand, Joan (Jeremy) Oldroyd, Michael (Megan) Staples, Jon (Amy) Drickel, Todd (Sherri) Drickel; great grandchildren; other nieces, nephews & friends. 
Friends are invited to call 4-7 PM Thursday at PAYNE & MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 1040 Rt. 31, Macedon. Her Funeral Service will be held 10AM Friday at First Baptist Church of Macedon, followed by her burial at Macedon Village Cemetery. Klusek, Carolyn J. “Pvirre”
GANANDA/WEBSTER: Died on February 20, 2012 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Cherished and beloved wife of Edward; mother to Timothy & Rocky; grandma & great grandma. Carolyn was a person of strength, dignity & most of all love. No prior calling. A Memorial Mass to celebrate Carolyn’s life will be offered at St. Patrick’s Church of Macedon at a later date. Memorials may be made to Hildebrandt Hospice, 2652 Ridgeway Avenue, Rochester, NY 14626 in her memory.

Mills, Madaline L. 
NORTH ROSE: Age 90, died in her sleep Saturday February 18, 2012 at home.  Madaline was born January 11, 1922 in Clearfield, PAl a daughter to Warner and Edna Shaw Evans. She moved to the Newark area when she was 6, and has lived in North Rose for the past 10 years. She was a veteran of the Army during WWII overseas as a WAC, completing her service as a Staff Sergeant. Through the years she was employed at CH Stuart in Newark and retired at Newark Wayne Hospital. She had many fiends that loved to play rummy with and will be missed greatly by all. She was predeceased by her husband Vern, daughter, Linda Mills, granddaughter, Mary Anne Lawson, brother, Richard Evans and sister) Jayne Brown. Survived by 3 children, Vern G. (Val) Mills, Jr., Mary Jayne Mills Ellis and Lois (Dale) Loveless; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Marie Evans Houghtaling Washburn; many nieces and nephews. She will be missed greatly by all. Madaline touched the lives of many, each and every day of her (our) lives, throughout her wonderful 90 years.
Burial in Huron Evergreen Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Wolcott Senior Citizens in her memory where she enjoyed playing cards and their fellowship.

Turner, Norma N.
NEWARK: Age 87 of W. Sherman Ave. died Thurs. Feb. 16, 2012 at Clifton springs Hospital. Norma was born in Macedon April 16, 1924, daughter of Carl & Eleanor Hipp Koester. She had worked at Garlock Co. in her earlier years and retired from Rochester Psychiatric Center. Survived by 2 daughters, Patricia (Frank) Zappia of Newark, Joyce (Franklin) Fogel of Nazareth, PA, 3 sons; Robert (Diane) Van Waes of Shortsville, Richard (Carol)Van Waes of Newark & David Van Waes; 3 step-sons; Walter, Robert & Daniel Turner, 3 sisters; Olive Zacharek of Syracuse, Myrtle Gates of Newark, Ruth Wells of Fontana Calif., Grandchildren; Joseph & Andrew Zappia, Ellen Patten, Debra Stauffer, Karen Haberle, Donna Kopach, Leslie Robinson, Leora Williams, several great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren.  Predeceased by husband: Daniel Turner in 1990.
No prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held Wed. Feb. 29 3:00 PM at Schulz-Pusateri Funeral Home, 103 Maple ct. Newark. Burial in Macedon Village Cemetery at convenience of family. Memorials to a charity of ones choice.

Verkey, Gerald W.
LYONS/NEWARK: On February 19, 2012 at age 75. Jerry is survived by his significant other of 40 years, Alice Buck; three sons, Michael (Shari) of Tunnel Hill, IL, Scott of Macedon and Kenneth (Kristin) of Newark; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ragland of Webster and Joan (Paul) Castiglione of Newark; three brothers, Jan (Ethel) of Leesburg, FL, Ronnie (Gabe) of Clyde and Fay (Melissa) of East Palmyra; several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Jerry’s life will be held from 3 PM till on Thursday (Feb. 23rd) at the Palmyra Moose Club #1420, 3808 Route 31, Palmyra.

    Gananda student is Horse Show winner

    Cortney O’Connell, a junior at Gananda High School  travelled in November to the Color Breed Congress Horse Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The show hosted almost 700 exhibitors,  representing 31 states and three different countries for five days of  competition between five different horse breeds. Cortney won her division of 14 to 18 years olds and also was the Overall High Point Youth Congress Champion.
