Let’s play “pick on the rich and successful”
This country is a democracy, and we use a system of buy and sell, known as capitalism. It is a pretty good system as long as the government does not try to overthink things.
Since the earliest days of man and woman, there have been those who may have been born on the same plateau of life, but for one reason or another, were out-hunted, planted the corn crops on rock, stubbed their toes chasing a mastodon, got eaten by a sabertooth tiger, or their cave flooded. I wonder what a caveman did about a hernia? Them’s the breaks.
I know the liberals will hate this paragraph, but it’s the politically-incorrect statement that kicks the bee hive. Our society attempts to cover others bad breaks by something called welfare, charity, hand-outs. Originally, these terms were seen as derogatory and carried a good heap of shame to the recipients. One receiving such ‘temporary’ help tried to get off the public dole as fast and as quietly as possible. They would never be caught dead standing outside the Wayne County Social Services doors first thing in the morning waiting to get in.
These less-than-completely-successful people, along with those who have not met their highest goals or dreams in life, are, of course, jealous of those who built big homes, have fat wallets and hit the pinnacle of something called success in capitalism.
Some are satisfied with their lives on the plain on which they find themselves. We are known as the ‘somewhere in the 99%’ group. We do not besmirch the rich, but nevertheless, are somewhat in awe. Yeah, we still over-envy the guy next door that hit the lottery, or those born with the silver spoon in their mouth.
To garner support for a cause, party, or person, some stand on a soapbox and yell up the mountain at those who have attained the peak. “We want our share of your success!”, is the cry. “It is not fair that we are not as wealthy as you. We want more of your wealth spread about so we too can have a piece of what you have earned.”
Some stupid Republicans, along with most Democrats, think all problems will be solved if only the successful are a bit less successful. If only we could knock them off their high horses, and tax them to the point where they cannot invest and keep the capitalism thing going.
After all, we are all created equal. There should not be a 1% that controls so much wealth. Sure, that sounds a bit like socialism, but if that is what it takes, so be it. Take out incentive, crush the drive of those who want to climb. Happiness is standing out in front of the Wayne County Social Services building.
By the way, 51% of all Americans pay no income taxes. Some claim the current tax laws, loopholes and all are unfair. I agree, the tax laws need to be simplified from thousands of pages to a simple brochure. It is not the successful who have created the problem, it is those who think the successful have created the problem, that are the real problem.
Straight, common sense thinking will not get the next line of politicians elected. Down with common sense, up with stupid soapbox rhetoric.
