Thumbs Up
The NFL preseason has begun, which means the NFL regular season is just 4 weeks away!
Thumbs up
The U.S. Women’s Olympic soccer team won their third straight Olympic gold medal Thursday, beating Japan 2-1 in front of 80,203 fans at Wembley Stadium (a record for a women’s soccer game at the Olympics). This came after an exciting double overtime 4-3 win over Canada on Monday night. Does anyone else really enjoy watching women’s soccer? I’m a fan!

I was disgusted when I watched a few American athletes act disappointed during the medals ceremony because they “only” won silver or bronze. Yeah, I get it…you’ve been training your whole life for this moment and you were supposed to win the gold…..but show a little class. I’m especially referring to U.S. gymnast McKayla Maroney who barely acknowledged the other athletes who congratulated her after the competition and who continued to mope on the medals stand after winning a silver medal.

The funniest (unintentional) thing I heard an Olympic commentator say during an event. When an opposing team’s hard spike was blocked by U.S. women’s volleyball player, Destiny Hooker…. “There’s not much you can do when you’ve got a 6’4” hooker in front of you”. Thank you for the laugh!

It’s tough being a Red Sox fan right now. Boston just can’t stay healthy. They have had 24 players on the disabled list this season, the most by any team since 1987. They are still only 5½ games out of the wild card heading into Thursday’s game. So you’re telling me there’s a chance?
Thumbs up
All the local athletes who won medals at the Olympics! It’s cool to see a U.S. Olympian win a medal. It’s even cooler to see someone who grew up right in your back yard win one.
Thumbs up
American sprinter, Manteo Mitchell felt a pop in his leg during his leg of the 4×400-meter relay preliminaries Thursday. He had half a lap to go when he knew something was wrong. Instead of stopping, he kept running (200 meters) on what was later diagnosed as a broken left fibula. The dude had a broken leg….and he kept running on it! Now that’s determination! I’d be on the couch for a week if I stubbed my toe. With his amazing feat, the Americans finished the race and qualified easily for the final.
Thumbs up, thumbs down?
A four-team trade that would send Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers is complete according to ESPN. Maybe now we can finally stop talking about where Dwight Howard is headed next season. So now where will he be going in 2013?
